Why is Barn Dried Hay
better than traditional field hay?
Good hay forms a vital component
of a small animals diet to encourage active chewing and provide
essential fibre. Our unique barn dried hay provides an excellent
source of fibre for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and chinchillas.
It has a higher nutrient value and is far more digestable
than traditional field hay. The more digestable hay is, the
more small animals will eat, which means there is less wastage.
In our unique method of hay production the risk of mould and
spores, commonly found in field hay, are minimised. This helps
to maintain normal respiratory function in small animals.
How is Barn Dried Hay
made?
The hay is made in rural West
Lancashire where there is plenty of clean fresh air. Usually
two cuts of hay are made in the summer months. After the grass
is cut, it is turned several times a day to allow it to dry
in the sun. When it has reached the correct moisture level
it is made into rows and collected from the field using forage
wagons.
The Hay is emptied into one
side of the barn and is then put into the dump box using a
loader.
The dump box moves the Hay along
and breaks it up into smaller quantities. This enables the
fan to blow the Hay up a vertical tube into the enclosed barn,
allowing it to be evenly distributed.

Here the drying process continues
until it is finally ready to be used. The Hay looks and smells
wonderful. This method of drying hay produces a consistently
high quality product.
